On Tuesday the 18th of November we had a kyū examination. William & Kavina graded to 6 kyū and Olivia & Maja to 4 kyū.Congratulations to them all!

On Saturday the 15th of November the Swedish Federation National Embu Taikai was held in Gothenburg, and in connection to this there was also a gasshuku (training camp). There  weren’t quite as many participants as we had hoped for from Karlstad Shibu – Anders-sensei, who was one of the instructors at the training camp and chief judge at the competition, Alva, Christer, Filippa and Jay. Alva and Christer competed in kumi embu (pair embu) and in tandoku embu (single form) Alva, Christer and Filippa competed.

On Sunday the  26th of October the Swedish Federation held the autumn Dan examination. Four kenshi took their test, two for shodan (1 dan) and two for sandan (3 dan) and from Karlstad we had Richard swho took his test for sandan, that he passed without any problems. Continue reading →

On Thursday the 9th of October we had a grading examination for the junior’s group. Tilda, Emil, Max & Tim graded to 8 kyū (first rank of yellow belt) and Alvin graded to 6 kyū (first rank on green belt). A big congratulations to them all!

On the 18th and 19th of October, we will be hosting a training camp for the adults’ group – a gasshuku – in connection with our 30 year anniversary. It will be held at Herrhagsskolan in Karlstad. Those who are interested in attending are requested to contact us for more information.

On Thursday March 27th, we’ll end the adults’ practice early at 08:00 pm to hold our annual meeting. Continue reading →

Kihon (basic practice)

During last weeks school break we had open the dojo for kids to try Shorinji Kempo for free. We had quite a few kids coming along and hopefully some of them got hooked and will continue to practice.

During the school’s winter break (week 9)  we have practice as usual, we will also offer all school kids to try for free.

Last Thursday we had a visit from TV4 Värmland (TV4 is a national channel, but also have regional news), which had picked up on the fact that Anders-sensei has been nominated for the Traditional Practitioner of the Year Award at the 2014 Swedish Martial Arts Gala. Today the clip was aired in the local news. (clip usually have a short advertisement first)

Christer, Alva & Maja after the grading

On Saturday the 8th of February we had a kyū grading. Christer and Alva tested for 2 kyū and Maja graded to 5 kyū. All passed. A big congratulations!
