No practice on Thursday October 1st

Unfortunately, we have to cancel practice on Thursday October 1st since Anders-sensei, Perra-sensei and Richard-sensei will be on their way to Portugal then, and Christer will be in Umeå. We wish Perra-sensei and Richard-sensei good luck at the European Championship, and also Perra-sensei with his grading.

On Saturday, there will be adults’ practice as usual, and next Tuesday there will be both children’s and adults’ practice again.

On the 15th to 17th of May we had a Unity Koshukai (koshukai usually translates to “study session”). The official name of the camp was “Shorinji Kempo Unity Study Session Sweden 2015 – 少林寺 拳法 UNITY 講習会スウェーデン 2015. The first study session of this kind was held in Bromma last year and this year it was Karlstad’s turn to be the host. We had about 65 participants from Finland, UK, Russia, Germany, France, Italy and of course from Sweden. Six Kenshi passed their test for Ikkyū!

On Saturday the 2nd of May we had a grading examination where six kenshi did their test for ikkyū (1 kyū). It was Filippa, Simon Rickard, Christer, Alva and Jay that took their test and they all performed very well and passed their grading by a good margin.

Last weekend the car company B&T bil at an event called the “Honda days” where they showed their latest car models. Our branch helped out with serving coffee, cakes and hot dogs to the visitors. Some members also did a demo on Saturday and Sunday. Neo from our juniors group first showed tandoku embu (single form), then we had Perra and Richard doing a kumi embu (pair embu) and finally Neo demonstrated some different techniques, both gōhō (hard techniques with punches and kicks) as well as jūhō (soft techniques with escapes and throws) together with Anders.

Last week we received a large number of certificates from hombu in Japan and we gave out kyū certificates to many members who had taken their kyū tests during the winter. Additionally we also Richard was awarded his inkajō (certificate) for his grading to chūkenshi sandan (3 dan) that he took in October last year.

Anders-sensei nominated at the Swedish Martial Arts Gala

For the second year in a row, Anders-sensei has been nominated to the Traditional Practitioner of the Year Award at the Swedish Martial Arts Gala! Those of us who know him feel more pride than surprise.

In their presentation of Anders-sensei, the Swedish Budo & Martial Arts Federation writes, among other things:

“… he has become a living legend in Shorinji Kempo. Such finesse, such authority and focus. A true dignitary within his martial art.”

The final Two that Graded in this Round

On Tuesday we had the final two taking their grading test in this round (they didn’t have the possibility to attend last week) The final two was to take their test was Marcus and Martin.
Marcus tested to 5 kyū and Martin to 6 kyū. Congratulations!

We also had time to hand out bukai sodeshō (arm badges indicating the rank for children) to a number of those who graded. Continue reading

More Kenshi that Passed their Grading

This Thursday we had another grading for the junior’s group, this time it was mainly meant to be for grading to 6-4 kyū, but two kenshi that didn’t ha the possibility to attend on Tuesday also. Totally ten kenshi did their grading tests.

For 8 kyū we had Kristian, Emil passed 7 kyū. For 6 kyū we had Tuva-Lill, Stina, Mara, Ida & Amanda. And finally for 4 kyū Hanna, Julia and Filip.

Grading Examination for 7th and 8th kyū

This Tuesday we had a grading examination for 7 kyū and 8 kyū. It was five children that graded and they all did excellent and passed the test.
