On Sunday the  26th of October the Swedish Federation held the autumn Dan examination. Four kenshi took their test, two for shodan (1 dan) and two for sandan (3 dan) and from Karlstad we had Richard swho took his test for sandan, that he passed without any problems. Continue reading

Try Shorinji Kempo During the School Winter Break

Try Shorinji Kempo During the school’s winter break (week 9)  we have practice as usual, we will also offer all school kids to try for free.

The municipality of Karlstad has a winter break booklet with activities for all school children during winter break.

Please note that it is a typo in this brochure and we have no training on Monday 24 February, it’s only practice on Tuesday and Thursday (25th & 27th of February).

Happy Birthday to Morikawa-sensei

Today is Morikawa Zeoh sensei turning 85 years old and we want to wish him a big Happy birthday!

Morikawa-sensei is doin-chō for Rakutō dōin in Kyoto and has had a long relationship with Kenshi in Sweden. Students of Morikawa-sensei was some of the early instructors in Sweden during the 1970s and during the latter half of the ’80s and ’90s we also had students of Morikawa-sensei coming to Sweden to teach for 6 months to a year. In 1987 we had Kawahara-sensei in Sweden for about 1 year, mainly in Visby, but he also visited Karlstad. In 1989 Morikawa-sensei’s oldest son Morikawa Kazuhito sensei came to Sweden, he was mainly in Visby but spent about a month here in Karlstad. In 1995, Hiroshi Kawashima sensei came to Sweden and he stayed about six months and spent most of his time here in Karlstad. Continue reading

Regular Practice Start Again

Jochim and Pele practice kata uchi nageToday, Tuesday 7th of January, the regular practice start again after the holidays. All old members, and of course any new members are welcome, for now it’s time to get going again after all the eating over X-mas! Some have practised in the dojo even during the holidays, although there haven’t  been any organised official practice sessions. On one of these sessions last Saturday Joachim showed up, he has been on a break from training for a a few years, but now we hope we get to see him a little more regularly in the dojo, and that some other old members can wake up and show up in the dojo sometimes.

On the weekend of November 30th to December 1st Anders-sensei visited England for some Shorinji Kempo practice. There was a half-day training for yūdansha (black belts) in London on the Saturday, followed by a full day gasshuku (training camp) in Southampton on the Sunday.

The Karlstad Gasshuku 2013

Åke-sensei teaches exercises with mits During the weekend of the 2nd to 3rd of November, our branch organised a gasshuku (training camp) here in Karlstad. We had training on Saturday and Sunday and there were participants from most of the Swedish Shorinji Kemp branches, as well as two participants from Finland.

The instructors for the weekend was Karlstad Shibu’s own Shibu-chō, Anders Pettersson Daikenshi 6 Dan, and Karlstads Studenter’s Shibu-chō, Åke Olsson Seikenshi 5 Dan.
