Over the weekend, 4 to 5 February we had a small gasshuku (training camp) with our friends from Harrow shibu in England. In addition to a number of members in Karlstad Shibu and then of course our visitors from Harrow, it was another two branches represented over the weekend. Karlstads Studenter Shibu had their shibu-chō Åke Olsson place on Saturday, and Jörgen Andersson on both days. Skövde was represented on Sunday by Peter Thorvald.

Filip Graded to 8 kyū
Kenta is doing a Comeback
Last Saturday, as well as the Saturday before that our old friend Kenta (Kenneth Westlund) showed up for practice again.
For those who don’t know Kenta he is shodan (1 dan), but has not practised for a few years. He works in Stockholm, but lives in Hammarö (just outside of Karlstad), so he will basically just to train at our Saturday sessions.
X-mas & New Years Greetings to the Branch

Now Practice for 2012 starts!
Practice will start again!
Now the holidays are over and we start up practice again on the usual hours from the 10th of January. It’s now time to get rid of everything al the food from the holidays have added. We also accept new members, for those interested in starting to practice Shorinji Kempo can start off with reading on this page.

Happy New 2012
Last Session for 2011
On Thursday, December 15th, we had the last practice session of the year and for the children’s group, we had arranged a small event including some demo and a short social activity with coffee, “julmust”, saffron buns and gingerbread (typical Swedish things for the season). Some members unfortunately were unable to attend but it was still quite a large attendance. Many of the children’s parents and siblings were also there to see what they practiced during the year.
Mattias and Simon Graded to Yonkyū
During the last practice session for the year, 15th of December, we also had a kyū grading, it was Mattias and Simon who tested for yonkyū (4th kyū, yellow belt). The grading went very well and both survived without any problems. Congratulations to Mattias and Simon!
Try Out for School Students
On Wednesday, 14th of December, we had a “try out” activity for students in the school “Folkuniversitetets gymnasieskola” (a local High School), they had a day with physical activities and the students could choose to do many different things, among one was Shorinji Kempo. Continue reading
Succesful Grading for Shōnenbu (children’s group)
On Tuesday, 6th of December we had a grading for the Children’s group (shōnenbu). There were a total of 13 children who graded, seven to the first rank 8 kyū, three to 7 kyū and three to 6 kyū.
All the kids did very well and passed the grading with good results.
